El Calafate (also known simply as "Calafate") is an Argentinian city located in the famous region called "Patagonia Argentina". The city is located within the Province of Santa Cruz, in southeast Santa Cruz, and at the same time, the Province of Santa Cruz is located in the extreme south of the country, bordering Chubut (to the north) and Tierra del Fuego (to the south).

The city is not very large in size, and its population is of around 20,000 inhabitants. El Chaltén is a municipality located within the famous Los Glaciares National Park (Parque Nacional de Los Glaciares), at the same time, within the Province of Santa Cruz. El Chaltén is located in the central-western area of the Province of Santa Cruz, and the Province of Santa Cruz, at the same time, is located in the far south of the country, in the so-called Patagonian region of Argentina.

The city of El Chaltén has a very small population, in fact, it could be considered as a town since according to the latest population census, El Chaltén has less than 2,000 inhabitants.
