The province of Neuquén is located in west-central Argentina, its capital is the city of Neuquén, which, at the same time, it's located in the eastern region of the province, bordering the Province of Río Negro. Rincon de Los Sauces is a city located at the north end of the province of Neuquén, bordering the province of Mendoza, it is located within the department of Pehuenches. Considering the number of inhabitants, it is a very small city, since it does not exceed 20,000 inhabitants.

Since the 1960s, when YPF found oil in the area, Rincon de Los Sauces has been characterized by its oil-related activities.
